Types of Retainers

Retainers may be removable or fixed. They hold your teeth in their new, correct positions after your teeth have been straightened. Dr. Austin will instruct you on how to care for your retainer and about the duration of the wear. Wearing your retainer as directed is crucial to prevent orthodontic relapase.

Removable Retainers

Removable Retainers are most common. These may be made of wire and Plastic or of clear plastic (similar to active removable appliances).

Fixed Retainers

Fixed Retainers are less common. They are bonded to the backs of your teeth to provide full-time support. Depending on you bit a fixed retainer may not be an option.
