Early Orthodontic Treatment

Early orthodontic treatment can help prevent future problems, as the child grows older. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Association of Orthodontics recommend an Orthodontic evaluation by the age of seven.

The first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in by that time and crossbites, crowding, and other problems can be evaluated. Early orthodontic treatment can regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth, correct thumb-sucking, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. Early orthodontic treatment can help prevent future problems, as the child grows older. Children mature at different rates, therefore dental age and biologic age may not coincide and thus their first examine may be early or later than age seven.
